BEST BET Crescent Lake, near Crescent City, has been excellent for large crappies with some fish well over 2 pounds. Cool weather is best, and daybreak fishing has been most productive for anglers trolling and drifting in open water areas using Mylar jigs tipped with minnows. Mandarin’s Al Green recently had 30 heavy crappies one day, 20 the next, with one fish weighing 2.56 pounds. SALTWATER Local cobia fishing remains red hot during weather when anglers can safely get offshore near ledges and wrecks in the 90- to 115-foot depth range.
